HIGHLANDS the "it" Mix

http://www.denverhighlandsrealestate.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Denver-Highlands-LoHi.jpg

When I moved to Denver and I was looking for the perfect neighborhood to live, my real state agent drove me through Highlands. I was very confused about why she was showing me that area which I honestly found, disconcerting.
But now, I understand reason. .. It was because Highlands is reverberant. The perfect mix between old and new, middle aged cool parents and young hipsters, people from all levels of income and tons of fun every day activities.

It helps as well that as a Latina, I really wanted to be surrounded somehow by “my people” and even though Highlands seems like the new “it” neighborhood, a lot of the population has been there for decades and come from diverse backgrounds, being a great majority Hispanic.

Highlands has visually a pretty heterogeneous architectural identity. From 1800’s vintage  to today’s gallery style houses. One of my favorite features of this neighborhood is that you have the Denver Downtown View from all over. There is a restaurant, coffee house, an arts gallery or a boutique in every corner, a fabulous Farmers Market that runs from June to October every Saturday with some special events plan here and there. And whenever you get tired of Highland (pretty unlikely) you can bike 5 minutes or walk 15 to Downtown through the Highland bridge.

The arts scene is huge in this community as well. Theaters, galleries, vintage stores in abundance give a significant number of artists a place to call home.

Tennyson Street Cultural District and Navajo Street Art District are areas you don’t want to miss. They each hold a First Friday of the month art-walk, where you can explore businesses and galleries from 6 to 10pm.

Do not let your first impression drive you away from an experience that can change your life. It did, certainly, changed mine.
